The Nintendo Download -- 8/18/2011

Nintendo continues to underwhelm with it's weekly 3DS downloads as the eShop welcomes Urban Champion 3D this week. UC, originally a NES game, has been given a 3D makeover in the spirit of Excitebike and Xevious. The only difference being that, while you probably remember those titles, you more than likely have only vague recollections of Urban Champ.

So it's new to you! Anybody remember that slogan? Ugh... read on for the full update-

Nintendo Download -- '3D classics' edition

This week's DL from the big N brings a 3D version of a classic title with it- Xevious. An arcade shooting staple, Xevious has munched many a quarter and now it's been re-mastered in the third dimension- no glasses required.

Nintendo Download -- 'People Want Movies' Edition

We all know it. You, I, and Nintendo know it- People want movies from their videogame handhelds, who cares about games?

With that in mind, Netflix heads up this week's offerings on the eShop. What games are there? Really? You want to know? Okay, but you probably aren't gonna like 'em too much.

Nintendo Download -- '' edition

Not a lot of big time releases this week on the eShop or in WiiWare. The standout is probably Just JAM, which has nothing to do with Basketball whatsoever.

Nintendo Download -- 'Virtual Dreamland' edition

This week's Nintendo Download features an old friend- Kirby's Dreamland, the original Gameboy adventure is now available on the eShop. There's also a motocross racer with Moto eXtreme and some classic SNES RPGn' with Final Fantasy III (FFIV to Japanese audiences) for the Wii.

Nintendo Download -- 'Mystery of Stratego' edition

For anyone who was expecting a deluge of quality Virtual Console games to start things out for the 3DS' fledgling online service, well, you were wrong.

Week one may have brought Mario and Zelda but here on week number 3 we get... Tennis? Yes, I suppose it is a classic Gameboy title- but really, is there anyone who was biting their lip in anticipation for... Tennis?

Anyway, there's also Mystery of Whiterock Castle this week for the Wii and the DS gets Stratego and some little dude with a fig leaf jumping around.

Nintendo Download -- 'Not Yet' edition

'Not yet' as in 'not yet'. Nintendo has updated their weekly drop of downloaded goodies to land on Thursdays instead of Mondays.

The 3DS version of the service, the eShop, will be the main focus as the new console gets it's first update after the release of Mario Land and Link's Awakening last week. So... we'll see you Thursday?

Nintendo Download -- 'Dr.Higgins 1989' edition

Nice little update from Nintendo for this Memorial day-

The Virtual Console gets updated with the classic platformer, Super Adventure Island- and DSiWare gets the '80s movie-like Valet Parking 1989, a squad based shooter/comedy in The B-Team, and the self-explanatory House M.D. - Globetrotting.

Some good stuff for outdoor gaming on one of the biggest BBQ days in the good ol' US of A.

Ninteno continues it's online offerings this week with a series of titles that are sure to not impress. When's the 3DS Shop open up again?

Nintendo Download -- 'Jaleco!' edition

Been a while since you've heard that name I bet. Jaleco made such classics in it's day- but perhaps it's greatest triumph was the amazing Rival Turf!. Who could forget that SNES celebration of all thing action, punching, and bandana-wearing? And now you can relive all those faded memories on the Wii's Virtual Console. The cost at 800 Wii points may seem steep, but can you even place cost on a classic like this?

Indeed...

Nintendo Download -- 'Airport Mania!' edition

Not too much on the plate this week for Nintendo downloaders. Airport Mania: First Flight sounds like it might be a fun little aside, but other than that- slim pickins friends.


Just hang on a little longer and you'll be playing Mario Land, 3DS style.

Nintendo Download -- 'That Ink is Flowing!' edition

Ever wanted to run your own tattoo shop? Sure we all do... but how to get started? It's just soooo daunting! But no more! Friends let me tell you about Art of Ink for DSiWare.

This amazing piece of software will simulate a real, honest to goodness, tattoo parlor! You play an aspiring tattoo DaVinci who, through hard inkin', can rise through the ranks and... own your own place!

Actually... it sounds kinda fun.

Nintendo Download -- 'Wrestling with Arcade Essentials' edition

Natsume Championship Wrestling may not be a name that instantly jumps to the front when you think of classic grapplers, but it probably should be- now available on the Virtual Console, NCW was one of the first wrestling games to feature an 'in ring' referee. Not to mention that the game had some really nice, clean, graphics for it's day and actually still hold up pretty well.

Might make for a nice little 'tide me over' till WWE All Stars next week-

This week also sees the release of a collection of re-imagined arcade classics with the Arcade Essentials collection in the WiiWare arena as well as a couple of demo's. Always nice to see more of those-

Nintendo Download -- 'Saving the Princess... With Bombs!' Edition

Bomberman 64 makes an appearance this week on ye old Virtual Console, but that's not the only title worth checking out- The light gun series, Heavy Fire, continues with Black Arms for the Wii and Jelly Car 2 joins Earth Saver for some downloadable action on the DSi.

Nintendo Download -- 'Bit.Trip Epic' edition

BIT.TRIP FLUX, the third game in the BIT.TRIP series, is the big release this week on the Nintendo Wii download service- there isn't really much else but that's okay when you've got CommanderVideo keepin' you company.

Nintendo Download -- 'VD' Edition

Yes it's Valentine's Day once again- and the Nintendo Download service is all atwitter with that warm, gushy, feeling of Pucca and Treasure Hunter X.

Those are the pair of headline titles for this week anyway, whether or not you feel they match up with Valentine's Day or not is entirely up to you.

Nintendo Invites Players to Download Brawny Action, Brainy Puzzles or Both

The brawny action refers to Shaun Johnson Gymnastics? Or SCAT maybe... When does the Gameboy virtual console start?

Nintendo Download -- 'Zombie Air Hockey' Edition

This week's downloadables brings us a demo of Zombie Panic in Wonderland, an encyclopedia of astrology/game called Magic Destiny, and what has to be a first on the DS- an Air Hockey game.

Nintendo Download -- 'Roller Derby Mania' Edition

Has there ever been a game based on the 'sport' of roller derby? This week's Nintendo Download may just have brought the first digital version of this proud sport home to enthusiasts (?) everywhere with Jam City Rollergirls.

On top of that greatness we also get Airport Mania for the DSi-which sounds like a complete clone of the popular mobile game, Flight Control -and a couple of Capcom classics (well, one's a classic anyway) join the Virtual Console.

Nintendo Download -- 'Time Twister' edition

Some cool stuff up this week including Animal Boxing for the DSi which sounds kind of interesting- and a Wiiware game about as time traveler trying to invent the perfect toasted sandwich maker.
